PLEASANT POINT — Although the local organization has been in existence for only about six months, the Passamaquoddy Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11299 of Perry already has made its mark on the local community with fund raisers that have provided much needed assistance.

The idea of forming the group came about after several local veterans realized that there were enough potential members in the community to form a post. The post is made up of Passamaquoddy and non-Passamaquoddy veterans, and membership is open to veterans from every community in the area.

During the past month, the VFW held a 50-50 draw and donated the proceeds to the eighth-grade classes at Perry Elementary School and Beatrice Rafferty Elementary School at Pleasant Point.

Pupils at the Beatrice Rafferty school plan to use the $154.50 to help pay for a June class trip to Washington D.C. and Virginia. The Perry Elementary pupils will use their $154.50 for a class trip to St. John, New Brunswick.
