Vikings’ Russ no-hits DI-S

SEARSPORT – Sophomore pitcher Jen Russ (4-2) threw her firststruck out 11, and walked two here Wednesday as her Searsport Vikings blanked Deer Isle-Stonington 19-0 in schoolgirl softball action.

Amber Howard had two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs to help lead the offense for the 4-2 Vikings. Kelley Fields doubled, hit three singles, and drove in two runs. Amy Bagley had three singles and an RBI, and Bree Robert added two doubles and three RBIs.

Bangor 10, Old Town 1

At Bangor, Carrie Caler had a triple, a double, two singles, and two RBIs to lead the Rams to the win over Old Town.

For the 7-1 Rams, Dawn Libby (7-1) pitched a three-hitter for the win. Susie Bretthauer had a triple, single, and an RBI. Jen Patry hit a two-run double.

Erika Nadeau hit a double for the 7-1 Indians. Singles by Julie Fadrigon and Lisa Ackley were the only other hits.

At Newport, Amy Crocker’s bases-loaded, three-run double in the last inning lifted the Broncos past the Warriors.

Amy Dwyer picked up the win for the 5-3 Broncs, Shelly Arbuckle and Crocker had a single and double for HA, and Jen Criag singled twice.

For the Warriors, 1-6, Angie Wilber tripled and singled and Lani Cyr singled twice.

At Camden, Amy Beveridge scattered eight hits for the win over five innings. The Windjammers upped their record to 5-2.

Leading the 14-hit ‘Jammer attack was Tia Madaffari with five RBI on a grand slam and two singles. Angie Holmes had a triple and single, while Jill Young, Jill Mitchell, and Alana Fuller each singled twice.

For the Tigers, 3-2, Daphne Marriner had a double and single.

At Ellsworth, Rebecca Stanley hit a triple and two singles to drive in five runs and highlight a 16-hit attack by Ellsworth in its win over Hermon.

For the 4-3 Ellsworth Eagles, Shelly Coffin had a triple, two singles, and three RBIs. Julie Coffin doubled and singled for four RBIs. Snow Pierpont notched a win.

Jennifer Johnston had three singles and four RBIs for the 1-6 Hawks. Tanya Winchenbach hit three singles and Tracey Cassidy had two singles and three RBIs.

Bucksport 14, Orono 10

At Orono, Jen Marzolf hit a two-run homer, a triple, and two singles and drove in three runs to lead Bucksport to its fifth win in seven games.

Tracy Huggins and Katy Bakeman had three singles apiece for the winners.

Shelly Tyrrell knocked in four runs for 2-5 Orono with a homer, double, and single, and Liza Marzilli drove in three more with a triple and a single. Becky Higginbottom also tripled and singled and had one RBI.

At Blue Hill, Jill Smith hit a single to center field with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Brandy Eaton with the winning run for the host George Stevens Academy Eagles.

Eaton drove in Kelly Wilson with a bunt single before Smith’s hit to tie the score. For the 7-0 Eagles, Wilson and Smith each hit four singles. Eaton singled three times and Katye Mattson twice. Becca Heavrin (4-0) pitched a seven-hitter.

For the 4-3 Sumner Tigers of East Sullivan, Angela Bagley doubled and singled for two RBIs.

At Millinocket, Becky Vaughan pitched a one-hitter, struck out seven, and hit a triple and single to lead the Maine Central Institute Huskies of Pittsfield to the victory over host Stearns.

For the 8-0 Huskies, Cory Monday doubled twice and singled. Courtney Barnes hit a two-run homer in the third and singled for three RBIs. Emily Walker and Jesse Barnes each singled twice.

Cory Santerre singled in the first inning for the lone hit for the 0-4 Minutemen.
