Wright holds on for late model win at Unity

UNITY – Kenny Wright of Woolwich held off a number of late-race challenges to post the late model sportsman feature victory at Unity Raceway on Sunday.

As early-race leaders Bruce Kane of Ellsworth and Dave St. Clair of Montville both suffered tire problems, Wright grabbed the lead and held off the late-race challenges of Marty LeBlanc of Madison to post the win.

LeBlanc finished second with John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor third.

The Al Buker Farewell Tour also continued at Unity as the Sport 4 driver who has announced his retirement treated the track’s fans to yet another win.

Buker held off Keryn Laite of Camden, with Fred Pollard of Clinton finishing third.

Spud Speedway

At Caribou, Richie Harris of Caribou survived numerous yellow flags to post the first sportsman victory of the season at Spud Speedway.

It took 14 attempts to get the first lap under way for the sportsman division, which featured eight cars for the first race of the season.

Steve Lange of Fredericton, New Brunswick was second with Robert Tomlinson of Arthurette, New Brunswick third.

Beech Ridge Speedway

At Scarborough, defending late model sportsman champion Mike Maietta of Scarborough worked his way up from the middle of the field to post the LMS victory over Mike Johnson of Scarborough in Sunday’s feature race.

Johnson, who picked up his runnerup position with five laps remaining, ended in that spot with Mikey Maietta – Mike’s son – finishing third.
