Jenkins pitches Bucks past MDI Trojans, 10-1

BUCKSPORT – Righthander Ben Jenkins five-hit the Mount Desert Island Trojans to help Bucksport win 10-1 in schoolboy baseball here Wednesday.

The victory improved the Golden Bucks record to 7-3.

Jenkins struck out four and walked two and is now 3-1.

Brent Emerson chipped in with three singles and an RBI for the winners and Sean Smith doubled and drove in two runs.

Brian Graves doubled and singled for MDI, now 4-9.

At Thorndike, the Mount View Mustangs spotted the Camden-Rockport Windjammers a 6-0 lead before coming back with eight unanswered runs to win the ballgame.

Jason Littlefield singled and hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the 4-5 Mustangs. Richard Moulton collected three singles while Chris Steiner added two singles and a double. Littlefield was the winning pitcher.

Sam Mazzo and Dave Preston each singled twice for 7-5 Camden-Rockport. Allen Tolan suffered the loss.

At Newport, the Witches pounded out 21 hits and upped their record to 6-4. Nokomis slipped to 0-10.

For Brewer, David Gregory had a perfect day with five singles, Chris Horr drove in four runs with two triples and a single, and Jeff Fogg had a triple and two singles.

For the Warriors, Josh Gilbert had a double and singles and Torrey Brown two singles. Both drove in two runs.

At Blue Hill, Jim Lay smashed a three-run homer and added a two-run single to highlight a 17-hit attack in the George Stevens Academy win over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners.

Will Holloway, Jerry Gray, and Jamie Sherman each added three singles for the winners, now 8-3. Sherman drove in four runs and Holloway and Gray each had two.

Righthander Jon Grindle allowed only three hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Jon Haskell doubled for DI-S.

At Belfast, Bill Canning doubled and singled to help the host Lions climb to a game over .500 on the season.

For the 5-4 Lions, Bruce Withee hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Tim Ladd (3-1) got the win in relief.

Mike Solovei hit three singles, Melvin Grant belted a two-run home run in the seventh inning, and Seth Brown singled twice for the 1-8 Vikings.

At Hampden, Matt Eastman hit a three-run homer in the seventh and doubled as his Old Town Indians improved to 9-2 on the season.

Cory Thibodeau singled twice and doubled while Nick Chaisson had a two-run homer in the seventh and a single for the Indians. Steve Pooler pitched six innings for the win.

Doug Trask hit a solo home run in the first and singled for the 5-7 Broncos. Reid Harris hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and singled. Craig McBean doubled.

At Bangor, the John Bapst Crusaders scored five runs in the third inning as they downed the Sumner Tigers.

Alex Peters had the only extra base hit of the game, a double, for the 5-3 Crusaders. Andy Jagels was the winning pitcher.

Brian Jordan was the losing pitcher for 5-5 Sumner.

At East Millinocket, Anthony Wolverton drove in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth by means of a sacrifice fly as the Devils from East Corinth nipped the Wolverines.

Central, 6-4, battled back in the game after falling behind 5-0 in the first inning. In the eighth, Irving Crocker singled, McLean Poulin walked and both moved up on a long fly. Schenck walked Rob Rogalski to load the bases, but Wolverton’s fly to left with one out brought home the tally.

Crocker had three of the four Central hits off Lucas Coon.

For the 0-7 Wolverines, Ray Houston singled home two runs in the first and Jared Stanley added a triple as the hosts managed only five hits.

At Dexter, Dexter’s Brian McKenney went 4-for-4 with two triples and two singles as the Tigers beat Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

Trevin Cobb hit three singles and Jason Stewart doubled twice for the 2-7 Tigers. Kirby Reardon belted a two-run homer in the first inning and doubled. David Chabot had a solo homer in the third and doubled twice.

Chris Norton doubled and singled for the 6-5 Lynx. Ken Glidden singled twice.

MACHIAS – Robbie Scribner worked the count to 3-2 before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Machias a 7-6 schoolboy baseball victory over Woodland here Wednesday.

Dean Kilton had drawn a leadoff walk, then stole second and went to third on a passed ball. With two out, Lucas Stuart and Bud Sprowl were walked intentionally to load the bases, setting up Scribner’s RBI base on balls.

Sprowl hit a two-run home run and singled for 2-7 Machias, while Stuart socked a solo homer and a single. Josh Goding added two hits for the Bulldogs behind relief winner Troy Dennison.

Josh Martell rapped a two-run double and single for 4-6 Woodland.

At Jonesport, Matt Cassidy fashioned a two-hitter, striking out 15, to spearhead Calais’ win over Jonesport-Beals.

Jason Parks singled twice and knocked in three runs for the Blue Devils, while Chris Sherrard doubled. Cassidy walked five.

Jason Harmon rapped a double and a single (one RBI) for the 5-2 Royals.

At Ashland, Jered Stewart slammed a three-run home run to highlight a five-run seventh inning as Hodgdon earned its fourth win against seven setbacks.

Winning pitcher Mike Cain singled four times for the Hawks, while Chad Merritt added a double.

Ryan Caron plated two runs with two singles for 7-4 Ashland, with Josh Ash contributing two singles.

At Mars Hill, Josh Collins struck out 11 and allowed five hits in the five-inning game as the Cougars improved to 5-3.

Randy Cyr led the winners with a 4-for-4 day, including a double; Jason Qualey had two singles and a double, while both Adam Curtis and Garth McNally socked two doubles.

Johnny Moir had a triple and a single for 3-7 Central Aroostook, and Randy Libby had an RBI single.

At East Machias, Derek Armstrong (3-0) pitched a two-hitter, struck out 12, and walked two to lead the host Washington Academy Raiders past Shead of Eastport.

For the 7-3 Raiders, John Francis led the offense with two doubles and two RBIs. Paris Calor hit an RBI single and Matt Mahar doubled.

Shirl Penney singled twice for the Tigers.

At Presque Isle, the host undefeated Wildcats hit three home runs and pounded out 17 hits to notch their 10th win without a loss.

Aaron Buzza blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning and singled to lead the offense for Presque Isle. Jay Hayward belted two-run homers in the second and fifth innings, and Marshall White added a three-run shot in the fifth and a single for four total RBIs. Michael Lawler (2-0) pitced a seven-hitter for the win.

Kendall Roy and Ryan Thibodeau each hit a solo homer in the sixth for the Vikings. Each also had a single and two RBIs total.

At Bangor, the John Bapst Crusaders scored five runs in the third inning as they downed the Sumner Tigers.

At Washburn, Jason Theriault’s two-run homer in the sixth gave the Beavers the winning edge.

Shawn Cunningham also cranked a two-run homer for the 3-8 winners and Andy Penland chipped in with a double and two singles. Rob Robbins and winning pitcher Andy Churchill each singled twice with Robbins driving in a run.

Marc Hebert and Marc Cyr hit back-to-back solo homers in the second inning for Madawaska, now 3-6. Isaac Cyr added a two-run blast in the second, also. Cyr singled twice.

At Limestone, Lucas Dewitt slammed a two-run homer, tripled, and had an RBI single to help lift the Shiretowners past the Eagles.

Brian Swallow chipped in with a double and two RBI for 4-7 Houlton and Chad Belyea had an RBI double to back winning pitcher Travis Beaton.

Craig O’Neal cranked a two-run homer for the 4-6 Eagles and doubled home a run. Tony Tobin and Anthony Ortiz each doubled.

At Fort Fairfield, the Tigers rolled to their ninth win against one loss behind Shawn Rogers, who earned the pitching win and drove in two runs.

Rogers, now 3-0, aided his own cause with a triple and double. Ken Ouellette and Paul Boulier each chipped in with a single and two RBI. Kirk DeMerchant doubled.

Ryan Beaulieu doubled for the Crusaders, now 4-5.
