Huskies rally past Black Raiders 2-1

WINSLOW – The Maine Central Institute Huskies rallied for two runs in the seventh to keep their unbeaten season intact with a 2-1 schoolgirl softball win over the Winslow Black Raiders Friday.

Becky Vaughan earned the victory as the righthanded junior scattered five hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Vaughan aided her own cause by leading off the seventh with a single. Pinch runner Mary Wintle stole second, went to third on the overthrow, and scored when Dione Rossignol reached on an infield error. The Huskies went on to load the bases and the winning run came across on Cory Monday’s fielder’s choice grounder.

Winslow’s Jen Harrison only allowed two hits as she struck out seven for the 7-3 Raiders.

Searsport 24, John Bapst 3

At Husson College in Bangor, Jen Russ pitched a seven-hitter and hit two singles to help lead the Searsport Vikings to the win over host John Bapst.

Kelly Fields doubled and hit three singles for the 6-4 Vikings. Amy Bagley hit four singles and Joy Richard doubled and singled. Bree Robert and Jen Cyr each singled twice.

Tracey Rideout singled twice for the 2-8 Crusaders.

At Camden, Staci Smith drove in four runs with three singles and Beth Parks slapped four singles for an RBI as the Lions improved to 4-8.

Sue Robbins chipped in with a double, single, and two RBI for Belfast. Heather Ross got the pitching win.

For Camden-Rockport, 8-4, Tia Madaffari drove in a run with a fielder’s choice and had a single. Angie Holmes doubled.

At Newport, Sue Thompson singled twice and doubled while Shellie Arbuckle notched the win with four innings of relief to help Hampden down host Nokomis.

For the 7-6 Broncos, Jen Craig tripled and singled for three RBI. Angela Faulkner singled twice.

Angie Wilber had three singles, a double, and four RBI for the 2-9 Warriors. Lynn Dorman had three singles and Stacey Vigue singled twice.

At East Sullivan, Melissa Nelson led a 26-hit offensive attack by the host Sumner Tigers with a two-run home run in the sixth inning and four singles as the Tigers rolled to victory.

For the 8-3 Tigers, April Butler doubled, singled twice, and had two RBIs. Cindy Alexander tripled, doubled, and singled for two RBIs. Dawn Emerton hit a solo homer in the fourth and singled twice.

Nola Judkins, Chris Chessman, and Holly Eaton each hit RBI singles for the 0-8 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners.

At Blue Hill, the George Stevens Academy Eagles banged out 15 hits to back pitcher Jessica Fontaine, upping their record to 12-0.

Kara Culvert slammed a two-run homer and singled for the winners and Kelly Wilson had four singles and an RBI. Wendy Marcinkus chipped in with an RBI triple and RBI single. Jessica Fontaine, now 6-0, aided her own cause with two singles.

Hermon slipped to 2-9.

At Thorndike, Paula Reed fashioned a one-hitter over five innings, striking out eight, to lift Rockland to victory.

Daphne Marriner slapped a two-run single for the winners and Teel Anderson had a run-producing single.

Dani Littlefield singled in the first for Mount View, now 1-8.

At Bucksport, Tracy Huggins hit three singles and Jen Marzolf added two triples and two RBI to help ignite the Bucksport Bucks’ offense.

Tammy Ames doubled and singled for two RBI and Jody Senter had a triple and a single for the 10-2 Bucks.

Amy Garland and Jen Smith each doubled for the 4-7 Red Riots.

Warriors rally to defeat Shiretowners

FORT KENT – Host Community High School rallied for 10 runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome an eight-run deficit and hand Houlton its first defeat, 10-8, in softball action here Friday.

For the 8-2 Community Warriors, Roxanne Levesque successfully executed a suicide squeeze so well she reached base safely and later scored the tying run in the sixth. An RBI triple by Kim Doustou scored the game-winning run.

Kristan Voisine hit a three-run triple and Joy Pelletier followed with an RBI triple before Doustou’s hit. Heather Pelletier (5-1) notched the win in relief.

Missy Gentle hit three singles for the 11-1 Shiretowners. Angela Berry tripled and singled.

At Dyer Brook, Jessica Walker’s run-scoring triple and Carrie Locke’s RBI single keyed a five-run first inning that sent Southern Aroostook on its way to its eighth win in 10 games. Michelle Forest hurled a two-hitter, striking out five and walking five.

Walker had a double to go with her triple and drove in three runs. Holly McGraw, Jeni Gray and Holly Slauenwhite had two base hits apiece. McGraw and Gray drove in two runs each and Slauenwhite knocked in one run.

Cathy Tardie had a run-scoring triple and Missy Chasse singled for 6-6 Ashland.

At Madawaska, Debbie Jandreau (7-1) pitched a two-hitter as the host Owls downed the Van Buren Crusaders.

For the 7-1 Owls, Jill Dube led the offense with a triple, a double, two singles, and three RBIs. Lisa Beaulieu hit a two-run triple and Chantal Cyr had a two-run double.

Kaye Paradis doubled and Amy Butler singled for the only hits by 4-7 Van Buren.

At Eastport, Amy Wolverton threw a one-hitter, struck out eight, and walked none to lead the Machias Bulldogs past host Shead.

Jamie Wood’s three-run homer in the fifth inning led the offense for 7-4 Machias.

Sandi Raye singled in the second inning to give the 5-4 Shead Tigers their only hit.

At Jonesport, Sandi Carver hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to rally the Jonesport-Beals Royals to victory.

Susie Wyatt hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and singled for the 8-0 Royals. Carver also added a single. Heather Beal doubled and singled while Crystal Alley finished with two singles.

Angel Kelly hit an RBI double for the 0-8 Hornets.

At St. Agatha, Renae Lavoie’s bases-loaded single with no outs in the seventh inning gave Wisdom its fourth win in 10 games.

Washburn is 0-11.

Two walks and Amy Lerman’s base hit had loaded the bases and set the stage for Lavoie’s game-winning single.

Lavoie had a double and two singles; Shanon Lugdon and Michelle Paradis had three base hits each; Lerman had a triple to go with her single and Tonya Michaud singled twice.

Sarah Canders had a double and two singles for Washburn and Laura Brown had three singles. Amy O’Donnell had a triple and a single and Amie Lavway had two singles for Washburn.

At Calais on Thursday, Beth Bouchard two-hit the Blue Devils to earn the win for the Shiretowners.
