Dan Dyer of Wells High School was named the 1992 recipient of the Jay Ramsdell Foundation $5,000 scholarship at a press conference at the Bangor Civic Center on Thursday.

Dyer, who was one of 37 candidates for the scholarship, plans to attend St. Joseph’s College in Windham next year.

The Jay Ramsdell Foundation Scholarship was established afte The Jay Ramsdell Foundation Scholarship was established after Ramsdell, an Mount Desert Island native and the then-commissioner of the Continental Basketball Association, was killed in the crash of United Airlines Flight 232 in Sioux City, Iowa, in July 19, 1989.

The Foundation awards a yearly scholarship to a Maine student who has demonstrated qualities of desire, commitment, dedication, and has aspirations to reach their fullest potential.

Past award winners include Kim Kelley of Katahdin High in Sherman Station and Andy Leblanc of Presque Isle.
