Brewer Republican seeks District 120 seat

Ronald Harriman, a Brewer Republican, is running for the Maine House of Representatives from District 120, which consists of part of Brewer.

“The biggest problem before us now is to get state government under control. Many of Brewer’s problems and the problems of business as a whole are a direct result of a state legislature that has been unresponsive and ineffective in dealing with our concerns,” said Harriman who has served two terms on the Brewer City Council.

A lifelong resident of Brewer, Harriman served as mayor in 1989 and 1990. During his tenure on the council, he worked closely with economic development efforts and cites the Lemforder and Ishikawa expansions and budget reforms as amont the most significant accomplishments during his tenure.

Harriman faces no primary opposition. Come November, he will run against Richard Ruhlin, a Democrat who has held the seat for four terms.

“Maintaining the status quo is no longer working, we need meaningful changes in order to make our state an attractive workplace and to create jobs,” Harriman said.

“I’m confident that with some new blood and a different attitude in the Legislature that we can get Maine and the budget back on track and to begin to focus on the really important issues that affect all of us on a daily basis,” he said.

Harriman, 39, is a graduate of the University of Maine who serves as director of Community Revitalization Programs and on numerous state and local boards. He lives on Locksley Lane with his wife, Cathy, and their three children.
