Perry man charged in burglary case

PEMBROKE — A 21-year-old Perry man was arrested Friday for his alleged role in a $2,500 burglary at the State Department of Transportation garage and maintenance complex in Pembroke early Friday morning.

Travis Stevens was arrested by Deputy Lester Seeley of Edmunds at a camp owned by Stevens in Perry, about six miles from the maintenance depot, and was taken to the Washington County Jail at Machias.

Seeley said that two other people, who he believed were participants in the burglary, are expected to be arrested and charged in connection with the burglary and theft of hand tools, a telephone, a truck radio, tow chains and other equipment from the highway garage.

Burglars gained entrance through a side window about 3:30 a.m. Friday, Seeley said.

Seeley said residents in the region were instrumental in helping law enforcement officials recover the stolen items and return them to the state garage.

“Only two missing radio speakers have not been recovered,” Seeley said. He was assisted by state Troopers John Mathews of Perry and Tim Varney of Woodland.
