Through their Minute Menus, Nutrifit and Five-A-Day programs, Shop ‘n Save Supermarkets are helping customers discover how foods that are good for you can taste good too.
“Today’s consumers are more interested in nutrition than ever before. More and more of our customers consider nutrition when making their food shopping decisions,” said Anne-Marie Davee, a registered dietician in the Consumer Affairs Department at Hannaford Bros. Co., parent firm of Shop ‘n Save. “The supermarket is where dietary decisions begin.”
But eating right can be a challenge, given the variety of items available.
“Shop ‘n Save has created two programs to help consumers make the healthiest shopping decisions possible,” said Davee.
“Minute Menus” are recipes for fit and fast meals that are convenient and economical. The summer series of brochures are currently availble for free at all stores.
“Nutrifit” identifies the five areas of nutritional concern for consumers and color codes them with easy to read shelf tags throughout the store. The Nutrifit Reference Guide to Good Health will assist shoppers in making wise dietary decisions throughout the supermarket.
“Shoppers save time and money with our “Minute Menus,” said Davee. “Each recipe can be prepared in less than 30 minutes and includes items featured in our weekly Shop ‘n Save flyer.”
The food chain also promotes “Five-A-Day,” a national program supported by the National Cancer Institute. “Five-A-Day” brochures and signs are prominently displayed in the produce section of each Shop ‘n Save Supermarket. These offer suggestions for including five servings of fruit and vegetables in your daily diet as a means to better health.
