I was pleased to see the positive coverage the Bangor Daily News has given the Maine whitewater rafting industry in two recent articles. I was, however, disappointed to note that in the latest

article only two whitewater outfitters were mentioned by name and telephone number.

The Maine rafting industry is supported by more than 20 commerical outfitters. Though these companies vary in size and style, each one offers an equally enjoyable and safe whitewater experience. Anyone interested in a river trip should either contact the Maine Publicity Bureau (582-9300) for a list of all commercial whitewater outfitters, or stop at the bureau’s displays along the interstate. The Millinocket Chamber of Commerce is also a good source of information. It maintains an excellent information booth on outer Central Street in Millinocket.
