Maine authors discuss their books at reception

Rebecca L. Goodwin, author of “Their Eyes Hath Seen the Glory,” recently gave a presentation of her soon-to-be-released book at the Friends of the Lincoln Memorial Library reception. The reception was held to celebrate the incorporation of the Friends group.

Goodwin, a Lincoln resident, retold several incidents. The book, which took seven years to research, focuses on the Civil War and the part Lincoln residents played in it. The book deals with the people as well as the war and everyday life, including disease and poor sanitation.

The virtue of the book is the rich part Lincoln people played in the war. It is a true picture of history and pride, and it should be a welcome addition to Lincoln history as well as Maine history. The book is due out by the end of the summer. Goodwin also does genealogy and is the new president of the Friends of the Library.

The second author to present her book was Burlington resident Grace A. Bowers, author of “Muffin, the Maine Puffin,” a tale of a baby puffin and the lesson it learns as it hatches from the egg, and learns lessons of life. Co-written with Louise Campbell, the book took a year to get published, and went through three reprints before it finally was released. The Maine Publishers Alliance has a few copies of the book left, and the Lincoln Memorial Library has one to view.

Bowers said a new book would be out soon, a play on words titled, “Have You Seen My Ant?”
