The Bangor American Legion baseball team survived a walkathon on Tuesday night at Garland Street Field, taking advantage of 10 free passes by Sherman Brothers pitching and defeating the Suns 8-4.
Bangor pitchers also surrendered nine walks of their own.
Both teams are 7-10.
For Bangor, which garnered just three hits, Justin Shaw had a single, a double, and two RBIs while Rob Estey had an RBI single. Craig Bowden received two of the walks, one of which drove in a run. Tony Fernandez fanned 12, but walked nine to earn the win before giving way to Chad Scripture with the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh. Nobody scored, however.
Sherman Brothers was led by Chris Sherrard and Matt Cassidy, each of whom posted doubles. Losing pitcher Paul Napoleoni struck out six and walked 10.
