Am I wrong because I’m deeply concerned, worried, apprehensive, or whatever, because the general public is not concerned over the important issues?
The people are still presented with more programs which supposedly will rectify our troubles, but in truth they will only increase our deficit/debt situation and not produce anything to sell in world or local markets.
The government is already bankrupt and has passed the point of no return. Many members of Congress, men of some integrity, are leaving Washington because they realize, as do members of the Grace Commission, that most people in Congress don’t understand our financial dilemma and really don’t care.
If, by 1995, the deficit is not eliminated, taxation of 100 percent won’t solve the problem.
We hear mostly of abortion, the environment, health care problems, crime, and drugs. These are all important but not until we get our country back on solid financial footing. If not, the proposes rebuilt cities will again be burned down and the current social problems will seem minor compared to those that will erupt.
We have one further disadvantage regarding our social ethics today compared to those back in the 1930s when I was a teen-ager.
At that time, the government had to start programs like the Works Progress Administration, Public Works Administration, and Civilian Conservation Corps to put people to work because in those times men wouldn’t take a dime they didn’t work for. They had personal pride or integrity. Now, people even feel it is demeaning to perform work for their different relief checks.
We had better start making it attractive for business to again start manufacturing competitively at a profit and get our country back to work.
Paul Tsongas preached this theme and look what happened to him. Think about it! Bob Brader Brooks
