ORONO – Univeristy of Maine women’s basketball coach Joanne Palombo put the finishing touches on her coaching staff recently, hiring Kay Abrahamson as an assistant for the Black Bears.

Abrahamson joins Lamar Boutwell as an assistant coach under Palombo.

“Kay is a talented young coach with vast experience at the big-time level,” said Palombo, who replaced Trish Roberts as the Black Bears boss. “She has a considerable amount of knowledge to offer our program and will be an excellent recruiter for Maine.”

Abrahamson, 24, most recently served as an assistant coach at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. A graduate of Iowa, Abrahamson played college ball for Georgia, starting as a freshman for the Bulldog team which went to the NCAA Final Four.

Abrahamson’s duties at Maine will include on-court coaching of post players, scouting opponents, assisting with summer camps, and recruiting frontcourt players.
