MONTVILLE — One man was killed and another was injured when their car left the road here late Sunday night and slammed into a tree.

Michael Thibodeau, 42, of Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. Ronald Roy Jr., 26, of Morrill was treated for cuts and scratches at Waldo County General Hospital and was released.

The accident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Thompson Ridge Road. Waldo County Sheriff John Ford said the driver of the 1981 Chevrolet El Camino failed to make a 90-degree turn and crashed into trees along the road. Ford said speed was not a factor.

It has not been determined who was driving. The car is owned by Roy, but Ford said Roy has denied being behind the wheel, although witnesses have said they saw Roy driving earlier that night. The accident is being reconstructed, and no charges had been filed Monday.
