WATERVILLE – The Wayne Booters edged the Mount Desert Island Blues 2-1 here at Thomas College Sunday to claim the Central Maine Summer Soccer League championship.
For 16-4-1 Wayne, Dan Noblet scored two goals. John Fitzgerald scored the only goal unassisted for 12-1-2 MDI. Wayne will play in the state tournament next weekend at Portland.
On Saturday, MDI Blues beat Farmington 2-1 and Wayne downed Absolute Soccer 3-0.
In the MDI game, Dan Goldthwaite scored on a Jeff Leonard assist. Mike Manchester scored unassisted. For Farmington, Solomon Sylva scored the lone goal.
Bob Tracy has Bangor ace
Bob Tracy of Bangor scored a hole-in-one Friday on the 165-yard, par-3 third hole at Bangor Municipal Golf Course. Tracy used a 9-iron.
His witnesses were John Rogers and Marsha Rogers.
Also, on July 23, Ernie Wardwell of Bangor aced the third hole with a 3-wood. His witnesses were Bud Brown and Dinny Meagher.
Hermon Meadow sees 3 aces
HERMON – Three holes-in-one have been recorded recently at Hermon Meadow Golf Club all on the 130-yard, par-3 third hole.
On Aug. 2, John Lunt of Bangor used a pitching wedge for his ace. His witness was Lolly Surgry.
In June, Bill Butler of Carmel used a pitching wedge and Phil Oliver of Orrington used an 8-iron. They were witnessed by Phil Butler and Jean Oliver, respectively.
