HOULTON – Eric Salminen had two goals and two assists to lead the Caribou Vikings to the a 6-1 schoolboy soccer victory over Houltonin their first game of the season here Wednesday.
Ben Black scored twice for the Vikings. Scott Richardson made three assists and Jerry Swetnam added a goal. Chris Funk made three saves on 10 shots.
For the 1-1 Shiretowners, John Melton scored on a Jon Bossie assist. Joe Sewall and Travis Humphrey combined for five saves on 14 shots.
CAHS 2, Wisdom 0
At Mars Hill, Steve Boyd stopped three of the nine shots he faced to shut out the Pioneers of St. Agatha.
Randy Libby had an unassisted goal for the winners while Ryk Paradis took a Chad Bradbury feed and scored. The Panthers are now 2-1.
For Wisdom, also 2-1, Jim Killarney had 11 saves on 17 shots.
Fort Kent 1, Van Buren 0
At Fort Kent, Laughn Berthiaume took a pass on the wing from Robbie McBrearty and scored on a breakaway from 20 yards out 17:30 into the second half to lead Fort Kent to the season-opening win.
Chad Boucher had two saves on seven shots for the winners.
For Van Buren, winless in its first two games, Todd Ayotte had six saves on 20 shots.
Ashland 6, Washburn 1
At Ashland, Chris Condon and Andrew Sjogren each scored two goals to pace Ashland past the Washburn Beavers.
For the 2-0 Hornets, Brian Belanger scored on a penalty kick and Ben Jackson added a goal. Dean Rafford made six saves on eight shots.
Brad Fox scored an unassisted goal for 0-3 Washburn. John Walker saved 15 of 22 shots.
Limestone 4, Hodgdon 3
At Limestone, Jonathan Gardner scored one of his two goals in the game with 10 minutes to go in the second half to give the Limestone Eagles the victory.
For the 2-0 Eagles, Robert McDougal and Brian Evans each scored a goal. John Butts was the goaltender.
Glen Cole scored twice and Jeremy Sjoberg scored once for the 0-1 Hawks. Chris Quint was in goal.
