AUGUSTA — The Public Utilities Commission will hold a question and answer session from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the commission hearing room, 242 State St., Augusta. Public questions will be heard on a decision in the Central Maine Power Company ratepayer complaint case, docket number 92-078.
The commission ruling may be had by writing to the commission at 242 State St., State House Station 18, Augusta 04333, or calling 287-3831. The comission directed its staff to explore ways to encourage public involvement in proceedings and make proceedings more easily understood.
The commission’s ruling included an order to scale back a rate increase from 8 to 4 percent; called for a management audit of CMP’s cost-control efforts, profits, management structure, and customer communications; ordered a new cost-of-service study to be filed by CMP; indicated willingness to expand the Electric Lifeline Program to help low-income customers; announced a summary investigation into CMP rate levels; and said the commission would consider suspending future accruals of base revenues under the Electric Revenue Adjustment Mechanism.
