BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island YMCA, in cooperation with Harbor House of Southwest Harbor and Tremont and Downeast Transportation, will offer transportation to the YMCA pool in Bar Harbor for the Y’s after-school swim program.
The cooperative bus service will allow children from throughout Mount Desert Island to participate in the program, which begins on Sept. 8.
Downeast Transportation will provide a 14-seat van, which will leave Tremont School at 3 p.m. and Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor at 3:10 p.m. and arrive at the YMCA in Bar Harbor at 3:45 p.m.
The van will leave the Y pool at 5:15 p.m. and return to Pemetic School at 5:50 p.m. and Tremont School at 6 p.m.
The cost of transportation for the first four-week swim lesson set is $16 per child. If there is enough interest, the service will continue for 30 weeks during the school year. Presently, a regular bus runs from Mount Desert Elementary School in Northeast Harbor to the Y pool in Bar Harbor arriving there at 3:40 p.m.
