Jacques Andreani, the French ambassador to the United States, will visit Maine for the first time Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 9. He will arrive in Portland Tuesday morning and travel to Lewiston where he will address more than 200 people, mostly members of the Franco-American community, at a luncheon reception at the Lewiston Ramada Inn.
Andreani later will fly to the University of Maine in Orono where he will speak about “French-American Relations in the Midst of European Integration” before visiting the Franco-American Center, a research and resource center for the study of Franco-Americans in North America.
He will address the Portland Committee on Foreign Relations later Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Andreani and his wife, Donatella, will drive to Augusta for a reception by Speaker of the House John L. Martin and Senate President Charles L. Pray, at the State Capitol, then will meet Gov. John McKernan and leaders of the Maine business community during a luncheon with McKernan at the Blaine House.
