CALAIS – Sebastian Walther scored three goals and assisted on two others to propel the Calais Blue Devils to a season-opening 7-2 schoolboy soccer victory over Lubec here Wednesday.

Gary Sousa scored two goals while Aaron Clark and Eric MacDonald also found the net for Calais. Matt Raye made six saves on eight shots.

Corey Pesce scored both goals for the 0-3 Hornets. Eugene Sylvia added an assist. Tim Huntley recorded 13 saves on 31 shots.

Madawaska 2, Fort Kent 1

At Madawaska, Jimmy Keller and Pierre Michaud scored second-half goals 55 seconds apart to help the Owls improve to 9-0-1.

Edward Lavertu and Keller each picked up assists. Joey Cannan made 10 saves on 17 shots.

Laughn Berthiaume was the goal scorer for the 7-3-1 Warriors. He was assisted by Ben Collings. Chad Boucher recorded 18 saves on 33 shots.

Woodland 6, Shead 0

At Perry, Chris Manza scored two goals and set up another as the Woodland Dragons rolled past the Shead Tigers.

The 2-0 Dragons also got goals from Jason Manza, Ryan Cilly, Marty Richards and Nick Leighton. Ben Burtt and Jason Manza added assists while Nate Martell made five saves on seven shots.

Ed Collins, Doug Leighton and Steve Bruce split the goaltending chores for the 1-1 Tigers, making 22 saves on 31 shots.

Machias 4, WA Raiders 1

At East Machias, Jeff Pritchard had the hat trick, leading the Machias Bulldogs past the Washington Academy Raiders.

Aaron Coffin also netted a goal for the 2-0 Bulldogs. Steven Dube, Gary Shurn and Coffin added assists. Tim Manchester had 13 saves on 19 shots.

Matt Mahar scored the lone goal for 0-2 Washington Academy on a penalty kick. Jason Ackley made five saves on 11 shots.

J-Beals 5, Narraguagus 1

At Harrington, James Halman and Mike King each scored two goals to lead the Royals of Jonesport-Beals to the win.

Jason Harmon had two assists while Jason Mills added an unassisted goal for the 2-0 winners. Wayne Dube made 13 saves on 16 shots.

For the host Knights, 0-2, Peter Joyce scored off a Joe Bianchi assist while Jerod Nichols made 17 saves on 24 shots.
