PITTSFIELD – Mark Smith of Auburn and Betty Snowman of Norway opened the Maine Candlepin Pro Tour with men’s and women’s division victories, respectively, in action over the weekend at the Pittsfield Bowling Center.

Smith rolled up a 10-string total of 1,366 and Snowman notched a 1,217.

Smith edged a competitive men’s field with Peter Caswell of Raymond finishing second at 1,346. He was followed by Michael O’Brien of Saco (1,342), Russ Nealey of South Paris (1,341), and Al Nelson of Gardiner (1,329).

Shirley Lewis of Saco finished second in the women’s division with a 1,205 total. Val Joy of Westbrook took third with 1,203. Joy recorded a lane-record 200 on her seventh string, featuring 10 marks (six spares, four strikes).

Jennifer Hall of Pittsfield placed fourth with a 1,194 and Mona Diffin of Waldoboro fifth at 1,189.
