Care providers attend conference

EAST SULLIVAN — A total of 115 child-care providers from throughout Hancock and Washington counties attended the fifth conference of the Downeast Child Care Task Force held Saturday at Sumner Memorial High School on Saturday.

This year’s conference centered on the theme of “Great Expectations” and looked toward the future of the child-care profession in the two counties.

Bill Wood, known to thousands of Maine children as “Bruce, the Dental Health Moose,” delivered a keynote presentation titled “To Be a Kid, Again.” Using humor, games and audience participation, Wood took his listeners back to their youth and reminded them of the special magic found in childhood.

The conference offered participants a variety of workshops ranging from appropriate play and accommodating special needs to liability issues and dealing with AIDS in the child-care setting.
