SKOWHEGAN — In a recent ceremony held at the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Spencer R. Havey promoted Lt. Michael R. Brown of Skowhegn to the rank of captain.

Brown will continue in his duties as director of corrections for Somerset County.

Brown is responsible for the management and operation of the county corrections facility. The corrections facility detains or holds approximately 1,500 people each year.

Brown is a nine-year veteran of the department. Prior to his promotion to lieutenant in 1990, he was a sergeant assigned as jail administrator.

He is a graduate of Beal College with a degree in accounting and Thomas College with a major in administrative management. He also has completed a course in management at Babson College, Wellesley, Mass.
