Community groups to sponsor Halloween activities in Milo

MILO — Community and business leaders and the schools have joined forces this year to provide Halloween activities for area youths in a daylong Halloween party in Milo.

Activities will begin with the judging of painted windows on Main Street Saturday morning. Art students at Penquis Valley High School will paint the windows during the week. Milo Business Association President Stanley Pokrywka is chairman.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the annual Halloween parade, usually held by the Milo Elementary School, will be sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The parade will begin at the Milo IGA parking lot and will march down Park Street to the Milo Town Hall. Chairman of the parade is Christine Beres, MES principal.

A Halloween penny carnival and haunted house at the Milo Town Hall will be co-sponsored by the Milo Recreation Department, the Penquis Parent-Teacher Association, and the senior art students at Penquis Valley High School. Organizers include Murrel Harris, Sara Boss and Sonya Harriman.

The carnival will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. for kindergarten through grade five pupils. Grades six through eight will have their activities from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission to the town hall activities is 25 cents, proceeds to help the art program at the school.

Sponsoring the festivities are the Milo Business Association, Three Rivers Kiwanis Club of Milo-Brownville, the Penquis Parent-Teacher Association and the Milo-based schools.

Information is available from Murrel Harris at 943-7326.
