Replacing a president

Two of the major problems we face in this country today are a president who did not use his power — the power of the people — to lead; and a Congress which, since 1989, has allowed this country to suffer in order to make the president look bad. Replacing a president is easily done, but replacing a Congress is nearly impossible.

On Nov. 4, numerous politicians will be interviewed before television cameras. With somber expressions they will speak into microphones thrust into their faces and tell us what we the people meant when we voted the way we did. If President Bush is not re-elected they will say we voted for change. If Gov. Clinton is elected they will say we voted for a change from the Republican Party philosophy to the philosophy of the Democratic Party.

Members of Congress must hear from the voters a clear message they cannot misconstrue to their own purposes. If Ross Perot is elected the majority of voters will be saying we are not satisfied with the performance of either major party. Isn’t that the message we want to send? George H. Hayes Brewer
