Bennett leads Unity to victory over CM Tech

AUBURN – Matt Bennett recorded a triple-double to lead the Unity College Rams to a 104-50 men’s basketball victory over Central Maine Technical College here Thursday.

Bennett scored 24 points, dished out 14 assists, and notched 11 steals. Jason Boucher chipped in with 24 points and 11 steals for the 4-3 winners. Dale Black added 18 points while Joel Pratt and Tony Therrien each netted 14.

Tim Mayer paced 0-2 CMTC with 19 points and Rob Bernier put in 12.

At Augusta, Mike Gillespie scored 18 points to lead a group of five players in double figures for Thomas College of Waterville in its victory over the University of Maine-Augusta on Wednesday.

For the 2-0 Thomas Terriers, Mike Adams scored 15 points. Barry Chassie, John Ward, and Billy Owens each scored 11.

Scott Bessey scored 13 points and Greg Chesley added 11 for the 1-2 Rebels.

At Saint John, New Brunswick, Heath Savage nailed six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to help lift Northern Maine Technical College of Presque Isle past host Saint John Community College on Thursday.

Bill Mathers also scored 26 points for the 4-3 winners. Dwayne Grass scored 20, Kevin Young added 13, and Derek Townsend scored 12.

NMTC exploded for 66 points in the second half.

For 2-4 Saint John, Kevin Rice scored 44 points, Jerry Guest added 19, and David Davis scored 16.
