Trip offered to see Connecticut casino > Bus to leave from Calais on Nov. 27

CALAIS — The cry on Friday will be “All aboard for a free trip to the Pequot Tribe’s casino in Ledyard, Conn.”

The Passamaquoddy Tribe, during the past two weeks, has introduced plans to build a hotel-casino in Calais, and tribal officials have cited the Pequot casino as an example of a well-run gaming operation. The tribe will provide area residents with a trip to Connecticut free of charge, so they can visit the casino, evaluate the operation and make up their minds about whether such a project would be an asset to Calais.

At the City Council meeting Tuesday City Manager Byron Burke presented the councilors with a copy of the bus schedule for the trip to the casino. The bus is scheduled to leave the Calais City Building at 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, and will return at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. A free buffet lunch will be provided at the casino. There will be no smoking on the bus.

Burke said the bus could hold 46 passengers, and to date, only eight passengers had signed up for the trip. If more than 46 people sign up, he said, an additional bus will be provided.

Anyone who would like to take the bus ride should contact the city clerk during business hours at 454-2521.
