I appreciate the knowledge contained in the (recent letter titled), “Gays in the military.” I would like to make a comment.

Though the Uniform Code of Military Justice prohibits acts for homosexuals such as sodomy and cross-dressing, punishable by court-martial, I think asking avowed homosexuals to exhibit straight behavior is not probable. It will probably be as previously — activity behind closed doors, the difference being the homosexual can announce his sexual preference without fear of discrimination.

As AIDS increases among homosexuals and heterosexuals, sexual activity has not seemed to lessen even though death could be a possible outcome.

I am not saying gays should not enter the military; I think President-elect Clinton and Congress should weigh all matters concerning this subject carefully. The final decision should be that which is the best for the United States and its military. Margaret Mason Bangor
