The Bangor High School girls and boys swim teams host defending state Class A champion Cape Elizabeth Saturday at Husson College in Bangor.

The dual meet, in which girls and boys events are alternated, begins at 11 a.m.

Boys coach Phil Emery expects this to be one of the better meets of the season, considering the four teams’ most recent history.

Last year, both the Bangor girls and Bangor boys beat Cape Elizabeth during the regular season.

But, the Capers turned the tables on both teams during postseason, to beat the Rams and take home the championship trophy while the Bangor teams closed out their seasons as state runnersup.

The Bangor-Cape rivalry is a old, and very strong one, Emery said of his program and that of girls coach Clem Whaling.

“This should be a very good meet,” he said, “especially if it’s anything like last year when it wasn’t decided until the last swimmers in the last events.”
