NEWPORT — Fund raising has begun to assist victims of a trailer fire Wednesday night in Newport. Jan Weymouth, her two small sons, ages 2 and 4, Tammy Leach and her daughter, age 3, lost all their belongings in the fire.

A pair of curtains resting against a lamp is believed to be the cause of the 6 p.m. fire that destroyed the mobile home in Elm Street Trailer Park.

According to Newport Town Manager Carlo Pilgrim, emergency housing has been provided for the families and Christmas presents have been purchased.

Anyone wanting to make donations may call Maggie Palmer at 368-5338.
