Full-court press sparks Warriors past FF Tigers

FORT KENT – The Fort Kent Warriors forced numerous turnovers with their full-court pressure and converted at the other end, building a 31-point halftime lead en route to an 80-66 schoolboy basketball victory over Fort Fairfield here Wednesday night.

Fort Kent cashed in on the Tigers’ miscues, storming to a 50-19 halftime advantage. Freshman Ryan Martin sparked the 5-3 Warriors with 24 points, while Laughn Berthiaume netted 13.

Corey Thibodeau and Brad Currier added 12 points each for the winners.

Bobby Russell scored a game-high 25 points for 5-2 Fort Fairfield. Kirk DeMerchant chipped in with 17.

Linden Curtis scored 15 points, Roy Warren 13, and Bo Stanley 11 to lead the 3-3 Tigers.

At Presque Isle, Tate McPherson scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to power the Wildcats to their fourth win against a single loss.

John Hersey added 17 points and Rob Wasson tallied 10 for Presque Isle.

For Houlton, Dan Dahl led all scorers with 34 points, including three 3-pointers. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Steve Nelson chipped in with 13 points.

Jonas Allen paced 4-3 GSA with 20 points, Will Holloway added 17, and Tom Pickering put in 15.

At Dover-Foxcroft, the Schenck Wolverines built up a 15-point lead heading into the final quarter and withstood a furious rally by the host Ponies to win by three.

Chris Hale led the 6-2 Wolverines of East Millinocket with 19 points. Mark Farmer added 17 while Kevin Thompson chipped in with 11.

Kenny Allen led the 4-4 Ponies with 22 points while Mike Smith chipped in with 15.
