LAMOINE — The Lamoine Board of Selectmen has hired Stuart Marckoon as the new town administrator effective Jan. 11.
The selectmen voted unanimously on Dec. 23 to appoint Marckoon, an eight-year resident of Lamoine, to the position.
“We are glad to be able to hire a resident of the town who understands the needs of the town,” said Nathan Anderson, chairman. “Stu is an aggressive person who should help the town in several areas, including the transition once the landfill closes and the solid-waste transfer station opens.”
Marckoon also is assistant fire chief for the Lamoine Fire Department and has been a member of the department since 1986.
He will retain his position as news director at KISS-FM 94.5 radio on a part-time basis while working as the town administrator. He will work the morning show for which has been news anchor for nearly 10 years.
Marckoon said he looks forward to a job that carries a great deal of responsibility to the people of Lamoine. “I want to serve my fellow residents, and will do so fairly and to the best of my ability,” said Marckoon. “I appreciate the support the selectmen and outgoing administrator, Joe Hayes, have given me so far.”
Hayes is leaving the post to devote more time to his job at the Bangor Daily News.
Marckoon has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Husson College. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two daughters, Sarah, 2, and Rebecca who was born on Dec. 26.
