Motorist crashes in officer’s driveway

BRUNSWICK — A motorist whose vehicle skidded off the road and came to a rest upside down in a police officer’s driveway was charged with drunken driving, authorities said.

David Clevenger of Yarmouth was not seriously injured when the van he was driving went out of control on the Old Bath Road and crashed just after midnight Tuesday, police said.

David Watson, an off-duty police officer, heard the noise of the accident, went outside to investigate and found the van overturned in his driveway. He called for a police cruiser and ambulance.

Clevenger, who suffered a slight head injury, was released on his own recognizance after being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, police said. Arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 19.
