BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

I read with despair that the possible 6,500 new jobs that would be created by a new Defense Department financing and accounting center depends somewhat on John Martin and company.

The state legislature can’t even save money by reducing its own size, which is larger per thousand than any other in the country, or enact Workers’ Compensation without its pet bills attached, then how can it handle this?

If it could surprise everyone and handle it then the next question is, is the Department of Environmental Protection involved? If so, it couldn’t handle Bowater and Central Maine Power when it knew it or they were coming five years in advance.

With these two bodies involved, I don’t know what the record is for getting decent new businesses to move to Maine or stay here, but the record speaks for itself. The cost workers’ comp sure does. Donald Arguin Old Town
