Assume innocence

I am writing about the media’s mistreatment of the Brian Lunt tragedy. He already has been tired and convicted by the media. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Could it be the media assume he is guilty because he has a previous conviction of arson and murder or is it because he is mentally retarded and mentally ill? Could it be this red herring isn’t guilty?
