Lily Tomlin will host the 14th Annual CableACE Awards program Sunday night from the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, exclusively on Lifetime Television.

This year’s program will honor performances and creative artists in 81 categories from 34 cable networks. There are a total of 376 nominations from a record 2,017 entries.

John S. Hendricks, chairman and CEO of of Discovery Communications, is the Cable Academy’s chairman, which this year will present the Golden CableACE award to C-SPAN for its coverage of the presidential election.

The awards’ name has changed from “ACE (Award for Cable Excellence) Awards,” which it had been called since 1979. The first two years, 1977 and 1978, they were called “Cable Service Awards.”

Two Maine nominees for awards are Jack Perkins of Bar Harbor, up for informational or documentary, for his role as host of “Time Machine” on Arts & Entertainment Network; and Jennifer Skiff of Somesville, up for magazine show special or series, for her role as segment producer for Turner Broadcasting System’s “Network Earth.”

Top nominated programs include “Dream On” with nine, “Citizen Cohn” with eight, “Tales From the Crypt” and “Sessions” with seven, and “A Private Matter” and “Ashenden” with six. All the shows except “Ashenden” (Arts & Entertainment) ran on Home Box Office.

HBO had a total of 104 nominations, followed by A&E, 32; Showtime, 31; The Disney Channel, 24; ESPN, 23; TNT, 18; CNN and Nickelodeon, 16.
