Mt. View defeats Huskies

PITTSFIELD – Mount View High led all the way in posting a 51-43 schoolboy basketball win over host Maine Central Institute here Thursday night.

It was the seventh win against 10 losses for the Mustangs from Thorndike. They have one game remaining Friday against Bucksport.

Shawn Weed and John Hebert led the Mount View attack with 17 and 16, respectively. Steve Suomi added 10.

For the MCI Huskies, finishing at 6-12, Scott Morin scored 15 and Steve Phillips 12.

For 4-10 Pine Tree, Adam Owen had 29 points and David Zabeleta added 15.

At Lee, Lee Academy concluded its Class C boys basketball season with its victory over Greenville, still holding out slim hopes of a preliminary playoff spot.

The Panadas led all the way over the Class D visitors led by Fred Francis and Ron Coombs. Francis scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds while Coombs had his third triple-double of the season, and second in a row, with 18 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists. Joey Downs added 11 points.

For the Lakers, who finish at 8-10 in the hunt for a tourney spot, Jarrod Strid scored 24 and Dracy Turner 12. John Morrill nabbed 13 rebounds.

Pandas defeat Lakers

At Van Buren, the host Crusaders led much of the way and carried the Beavers into an extra session before losing.

Washburn, 8-10, came from eight behind after three to tie it at the end of regulation with Todd Laferriere’s 3-pointer at the 30 seconds mark a key factor.

In overtime, Shawn Cunningham had three points to lead the way. Cunningham, Matt Harris and Chris Hallett each finished with 12 points.

For the Crusaders, who concluded at 5-11, Toby Morrow had 27 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Beaulieu scored nine.
