Wildman leads Braves by Terriers

Kristi Wildman tossed in 19 points and recorded four steals to lead the Husson College women’s basketball team to a 72-48 victory over the Thomas College Terriers at Newman Gym in Bangor on Monday night.

The win moved Husson to 20-1 on the season and increased the team’s school-record setting winning streak to 20 straight games. Thomas College of Waterville fell to 9-13.

Thomas was playing without freshman guard Sarah Fenderson (knee injury), the second-highest scorer in the state this season (18.6 ppg).

Darci Collins added 12 points to the winning effort while Vicki Mazerall, Steph Shaw, and Tara Leavitt each added eight points. Mazerall added six rebounds and four steals while Tracy Parker chipped in six rebounds.

For Thomas, Kathleen Hogan tallied 18 points and Mo McInnis added 16.

Husson jumped out to a 7-1 lead, but Thomas battled back to tie the game at 9-9 before the Braves pulled away for good.

“We started off really flat,” said Husson Coach Kissy Walker. “I wasn’t really pleased with our performance. It gave us 20 wins and that’s nice, but I thought it was our poorest game yet. I don’t know. It’s late in the season. I guess when you win 20 games, you keep expecting more and more.”

Walker did laud the play of Tara Leavitt and Angie Grant, both of whom came of the bench to spark the Braves offense.
