EAST MILLINOCKET — Chairman James Wentworth conducted the January meeting of the Penquis District Boy Scout Committee and Howard Kesseli reported on membership. The meeting was held at Helen Frederico’s residence in East Millinocket.
Kesseli said there were 141 members in Tiger Scout troops; 631 Webelos; 314 Boy Scouts; 18 Packs; 18 local units; and 58 Explorers. He said that $1,867 had been realized in a fund drive designed to raise $27,000. No district reached its goal in 1992.
Elaine Heath attended a camping and activities meeting.
Officials reported that there were six openings for the National Camporee. The camp personnel are refining the program to provide a better one for less money.
New units are being formed in Greenville, Milo, Millinocket and Sherman.
Nancy Crockett and Kathy Jablonski spoke on training. A session in January went well with people from Greenville, Sangerville, Corinna and Dover-Foxcroft attending. Another session is being planned for the Millinocket area for Saturday, Feb. 13.
Cynthia McLeod reported on the commissioner’s staff. There was a conference in January. Commissioners are still needed in several areas.
A winter fellowship meeting was held by the Order of the Arrow, according to David Bradford.
Dennis Clukey of Troop 65 was the winner of this year’s Boy Scout uniform.
