LEVANT — Levant selectmen heard another request from Darrel Sproul at their Feb. 12 meeting concerning his Forest Hills subdivision.
Town Manager Mary Casciotti said that Sproul requested an extension of time to correct deficiencies in the subdivision road. The selectmen have cited defects with the width of the road and road drainage.
Because they did not have a full board, no action was taken on Sproul’s request, but the selectmen did instruct Casciotti to find out from the town attorney the range of legal actions that the town could take against Sproul and his partner, Richard Maraghy.
The selectmen have gone through nearly four years of extensions in hopes of getting the deficiencies corrected, said Casciotti.
Sproul provided lanmd in escrow as a bond for completion of the project and the selectmen want to know what legal process must be followed in order to take the land.
There are approximately 20 houses and mobile homes in the 19.99-acre subdivision, said Casciotti. Subdivisions of 20 acres or more must comply with a different set of guidelines than do those of less than 20 acres. There is only one road in the Forest Hills development and it ends in a cul de sac.
Specifications detailed in the original plans for Forest Hills have not been met, Casciotti said, selectmen are growing impatient after four years.
In other town business, representatives from the Eastern Maine Development District will attend the Wednesday, March 3 meeting of the Planning Board meeting to discuss what projects the town could do through its proposed Community Development Block Grant.
The block grant, said Casciotti, also offers a planning grant that would allow the town to create a capital impromenents program, which could include a proposal for construction of a fire station in West Levant.
Selectmen also awarded a contract to Newport Printing to print the town reports. By bidding the reports this year, the town spent $800 less than last year.
A public hearing on the budget will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.
