Al Joy and Fran DeRoche each captured victories in the Maine Open Singles Candlepin Championships at the Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes in Brewer over the weekend.

Joy, of the Oxford Hills Bowling Center in South Paris, rolled a 10-string total of 1378, edging Russ Nealey of OHBC by one pin. Rounding out the top five were: Dave Vigue, Waterville, 1349; Francis Beaulieu, Vacationland Lanes in Saco, 1329; and Gary Winchenbach, Lucky Strike Lanes, Gardiner and Walter Reed, Tri-Town Lanes, Jay, 1326 each.

DeRoche, representing the B-B Lanes, carded a 1284 to beat out Vactionland’s Paula Truman, who finished at 1259. Also placing in the top five were: Mary LeBrecque, OHBC, 1254; Kelly Ames, Tri-Town, 1230; and Jo-Linn Townsend, OHBC, 1219.
