FRENCHVILLE — Funeral services were held at the St. Luce Catholic Church at Frenchville Thursday for the parish’s oldest native who died Monday at a Fort Kent hospital at the age of 106.
Leona Martin, born at Frenchville on Aug. 25, 1886, died at a Fort Kent Hospital Monday. She had been a resident at the High View Manor Nursing Home at Madawaska for several years.
She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne of St. Luce Parish.
She was survived by four daughters, Hilda Koss of Waterbury, Conn.; Idella Fore of Carlsbad, N.M.; Rita Boucher of Frenchville; and Evelyn Wietrzykowski of Bristol, Conn.; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were celebrated by the Rev. Angelo Levasseur in the church that was built when Martin was 22 years old. She was a lifelong member of the parish that is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
