Men’s College Basketball
PORTLAND – Husson College’s Raymond Alley and Jeff Shakoor joined eight other players named to the NAIA All-District 5 men’s basketball team, announced during the District tournament Monday at the Portland Expo.
Alley, a 5-foot-9 junior guard from Vinalhaven, averaged nearly 20 points per game to help lead the Braves from Bangor to a 26-7 record and a No. 3 seed in the District tourney heading into Monday night’s game vs. St. Joseph’s College of Standish.
Shakoor, a 6-5 senior forward and native of Fairfield, N.J., averaged nearly 13 points and 10 rebounds per game for Husson while finishing third in the District in field-goal percentage (.656). He also went over 1,000 points for his career this season.
Westbrook College center Paul Peterson was named the District Player of the Year. The 6-7 junior from Belle Harbor, N.Y., averaged 26 points and 15 rebounds while helping the Wildcats achieve a 26-4 record and the No. 1 seed.
Jim Graffam of Westbrook was named District Coach of the Year for leading the Wildcats to their record and seeding in only their third season as a varsity program.
Other players named to the All-District squad were:
Senior guard Jamie Header, junior guard Steve Schuler, and junior forward Greg Collymore of St. Joseph’s College; Sean O’Shea, a junior forward from the University of New England; senior guard Arian Foster of Atlantic Union, Johnson State junior guard Steve Blouin, and St. Joseph’s of Vermont senior forward Dennis Shelton.
