CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Academy Astronomy Club recently welcomed elementary pupils from Adams School at a presentation on the scale of the planets to the universe.

The program was the first in a series of monthly educational presentations for local children. MMA students give presentations on subjects of personal study, tailoring the material for a young audience.

“A goal of the club is to reach out to the community and to share information about astronomy,” said William Corbett, assistant professor of physics and club adviser. “This program allows students to meet that goal and to have a great deal of fun in the process.”

The junior activity series was organized by Corbett and by Gay Leach, an Adams School parent and the grants and contracts coordinator for Maine Maritime.
