TAMPA, Fla. – Luke Belcastro belted a two-run homer and added a sacrifice fly to lift Amherst College to a 7-1 victory over Husson in baseball action Sunday.

Amherst starting pitcher Adam Slocum made the Lord Jeffs’ season debut successful, pitching five innings of one-run ball.

Husson (2-4) got three hits from Sean Sullivan and an RBI single from Rich Mazurek. The Braves play again Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Petersburg against Suffolk.

Amherst reached Husson starter Peter Allen (0-2) for two runs in the first inning and four more in the second.

In the first, Amherst’s Dave George lashed a two-out single. Belcastro followed with an inside-the-park homer hit to the deepest part of the park.

Amherst’s second inning featured back-to-back singles by Dave Hollis and Chris Torino, an RBI fielder’s choice by John Batt (3 hits), an RBI single by Jim Gibbons, a wild pitch, an RBI single from George, and a sacrifice fly by Belcastro.

Husson tallied in the fourth inning when Bill Swift reached and advanced to second on an infield error. Mazurek then roped an RBI single.
