I thought serving on the City Council was a serious responsibility.

It seems to me that if a person is elected to the council that person has a duty to do the job all the time, not only when it’s convenient.

If certain city councilors don’t think attending council committee meetings is important, they should do one of two things. Get off the council, or get rid of the committees. If committees aren’t important, why does the council have them? If they are important, why don’t the members attend meetings of those committees?

Harry Truman said, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” If city councilors can’t spare the time to do the job they were elected to do, they should resign and let someone serve who will have the time, or make the time. Joseph R. Bartek Sr. Bangor
