Quick move saves burning mobile home

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Quick thinking by a Dover-Foxcroft man saved his mobile home from destruction Thursday.

Melvin Teachout of Garland Avenue had the presence of mind to close the door to his bedroom after fire erupted from an electrical outlet in the room shortly after 7 a.m.

Dover-Foxcroft Fire Chief Joseph Guyotte credited Teachout’s actions with saving the trailer. “He closed the door to the bedroom and contained the fire,” he said.

Guyotte said both Teachout and his wife, Robin, were home at the time of the fire. Damage to the bedroom of the approximately 10-year-old home was estimated at $8,000.

The home was insured, Guyotte said.
