LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Heather Brewer sparked a 10-hit attack with a triple and two singles, leading the University of Maine-Presque Isle to a 21-0 victory over Lyndon State in the second game to give the Owls a split of their softball doubleheader here Friday.
Lyndon State won the opener 12-1. Both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
In Game 2, Brewer’s hitting backed the three-hit pitching of Lynn Hartley (1-1). Mel Johnson and Sarah Roy added two hits each for the 1-3 Owls.
Tonya Noyes doubled for the 1-1 Hornets behind loser Amber Kelly.
In the opener, the hosts’ six-run third inning paved the way to victory. Elizabeth Burnham rapped a double and a single, while Andrea Willey and Noyes chipped in with two hits each.
Brewer tripled for UMPI, with Jennifer Hersey taking the loss.
