EAST CORINTH – Host Central High School scored nine runs in the second inning, paving the way to a season-opening 20-4 softball victory over Penquis of Milo here Tuesday.

The game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 12-run rule.

Sue Ann Allen pitched four innings, combining with her sister, Julie Allen, on a three-hitter. Sue Ann Allen hit a three-run single and a triple for the Red Devils.

Cherie Greatorex (one RBI) rapped a double and a single, while Jenny Cichocki cranked a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

Tammy Ellison stroked a two-run triple for the Patriots.
